Lansmore Wedding Expo

Lansmore Hotel, a recent 5 star addition to the small group of high class hotels located in Gaborone, held a wedding expo on the 20th of April. The aim of the expo was to market the hotel as a wedding venue and to also expose future husbands and wives to the many wedding services available here in Botswana or from across the border in South Africa.

The event began in the afternoon and went on into the early evening ending with 3 highly anticipated fashion shows featuring Black Trash, Di-Monde Reign Designs and South Africa’s Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs.

Attendees got to browse through the many stalls viewing table settings, photography, cake designs, rings, clothing etc. My girl friend and I browsed the stalls while low key planning our future (very future) weddings. Feast your eyes on the pictures below (Click the thumbnail to enlarge)

However the highlight of the afternoon was the wedding gown fashion show hosted by Tshepo Ntshole. In one of the conference rooms, we crowded around a small runway to see the stunning gowns. I guess the organizers were not expecting such a large turnout because there was barely room for one to move in the room. Given the time I arrived, we only managed to catch the designs of Thandi Moremong and a South African wedding company called Embrace.

Thandi Moremong’s gowns were very simple, sexy and classy while Embrace gowns were more dramatic and eye catching, perfect for those wishing to look like a princess on their big day. Check out the video below for the show.

At the end of the show, an audience member won wedding planning services and a gown worth 15 000 Pula from Embrace, lucky girl!

???????????????????????????????Attendees were then invited to attend the fashion show taking place later in the evening outside in the Masa Square food court. We browsed the stalls and had a drink at one of the restaurants to kill time. Eventually the runway was set up and people began to look for a good spot to watch the show by the stage. Again the show was hosted by the charismatic Tshepo Ntshole.

Lebo Merafhe of Di-Monde Reign opened the show with a debut of her winter 2013 collection. It was absolutely stunning and impeccably made. We caught up with her after the show and she was wearing an outfit within the same theme of her winter collection.

It was as beautiful up close as it was from a distance. She used neutral colours for her palette and kept it simple and clean design wise. Check out the runway show in the video below:

The audience clearly enjoyed her show immensely. This is her second collection and she is definitely becoming a force in the local design industry. She was followed by Craig Jacobs who showcased a line of simple, romantic, flirty and brightly coloured summer dresses.  View the video below to see the show:

Black Trash ended the evening with a slightly longer runway show where we saw their men’s and women’s wear collection. Black Trash designers are a husband and wife team Gertrude and Kutlwano Mogojwe and have been at it for years now. Their clothes have been described as edgy, funky, dramatic and extravagant. They do not design for the faint hearted!

Earlier in the day a gentleman had proposed to his girlfriend at the wedding expo and the organizers decided to reward the couple with a trip to Mozambique! Talk about perfect timing!

Overall the event was well received and a success attendance wise. I can see such an event drawing crowds every year as weddings are always in season. Next time such an event pops up, all brides to be better note it on their calendars!
